Adding the bot to a group

Grant the right permission and start the bot in your chat.

InstantMediaBot works in groups (including supergroups and forum-enabled ones) — a link sent to it in a private message instead points you to @download_it_bot.

Steps

  1. Open @InstantMediaBot and open the mini app from its menu.
  2. Press Manage chats to open the mini app, then Add chat: pick an existing group you administer, or create a new chat from the picker.
  3. Confirm adding the bot as an administrator. The permission it needs — posting messages — is pre-selected; nothing else is required.
  4. Once added, the bot immediately starts watching the group's messages for supported links.

If you remove the bot's admin rights or demote it, it can no longer reply with media in that chat, even though it stays a member.

Multiple groups

One Telegram account can manage several groups from the same mini app — each chat has its own settings, subscription and request log, listed separately. Each group's plan determines its own limits, independently of any other group the same account manages.

Removing the bot

Remove the bot from the group, or use the mini app's detach option for that chat, to stop it watching that chat and delete its stored settings for it.

See Settings for what to configure next, or Plans if the group needs more than the free, cache-only tier.
